Rollover Accident at Delaney and Cedar Roads; Injuries Reported
Will County Sheriff's Department and New Lenox Fire Protection District were on the scene at a rollover accident at Delaney and Cedar Roads.
Two people escaped serious injury in a two-car rollover accident just before 1 a.m. at Delaney and Cedar Roads.
The New Lenox Fire Protection District transported two people—a 19-year-old New Lenox woman and a 24-year-old Manhattan man—to Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.
The identies of the two were not released; however, the Will County Sheriff's Department said they had complained of "neck and back soreness."
Kathy Hoffmeyer, Will County Sheriff's Department spokesperson, said Kyle Greenfield, 21, of Manhattan, was ticketed for texting while driving and for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. There was no evidence of alcohol use by any involved.
According to the report, while traveling northbound on Cedar Road, Greenfield, who was driving a 2010 Dodge Avenger, rear ended a 2010 Mercury Milan. The Mercury was stopped at a stop sign.
The force of the collision pushed the Mercury into a ditch where it flipped on its hood. Greenfield's car, which had sustained heavy front end damage, was in the middle of the intersection when the sheriff's department arrived.
Greenfield refused medical treatment, said Hoffmeyer.

Quite a few bad accidents at that corner lately. I hope the occupants are alright.
I might open a collision repair shop on that corner if this keeps up.

Idiot! Texting while driving! Lucky he did not kill someone or himself. There is a need for a stoplight at that intersection. Larry Walsh got one on Rt. 53 in Elwood. Maybe he can work on this intersection. Why aren't the township officials doing anything? Remember...the election is coming up. Hope the other drivers are okay.

Officials are doing something. It's called a law against texting and driving. You think by throwing more taxpayer money at the problem will solve everything? This person disobeyed the law by texting and driving and putting other motorists' lives at risk. What makes you think anything would be different with a new sign? Texting accidents are just as bad as DUI accidents.

Putting a light here is idiotic. It's a 4 way stop with very manageable traffic. There is no need for a light. People just need to actually STOP at the STOP sign.

I would love a Bright light at that intersection, but that won't stop people from not paying attention. People need to get off the phone and drive!!

Looks as though the Mercury was in the ditch and flipped on it's hood, not the Dodge.

Unreal how many accidents there are at that intersection. A flashing red light can't hurt. Should be a no brainer. Will county handles that I think, not NL.

Just a thought, but I don't think a stoplight is the answer. The victims who were lucky enough to live through these last few accidents may not have been so lucky had there been traffic traveling at 55-60mph. A red flashing light sounds would be a better option, in my opinion. Or, hey! Maybe people could just pay attention to the road??!

I have seen people reading the freakin newspaper on the Dan Ryan while driving. I have seen women putting on make up as well. Some people just flat out should not be allowed to drive as they forget we all have to share the road.

It seems like there have been more accidents at that intersection since they put the stop sign up than there were before. Just like more rearend collisions at stop lights with cameras.

Anyone causing an accident while texting should lose their license for a year. We are piloting killing machines at each other and no one is paying attention!

Nothing good happens after midnight! And please, if you can't resist the urge to use your phone while driving than leave it home or turn it off and put it away!!!! Think about it - cars are great for getting us to where we want to go but they are also huge weapons that can kill if we do not use them with respect for others around us! Parents we need to continuously remind our kids whether they want to hear it or not to NOT use the cell phones while driving. And we adults need to be the example!!!!

Agree that the intersection needs better visibility, but texting is clearly the issue here. @ comment about folks reading newspapers and putting on make-up, I totally agree. It's all distracted driving and people just shouldn't do it. I was behind a young gal putting on make-up the other morning. We were pointed west on 30 and in the left-only lane to get onto 80 east. The light changed with a full green AND green arrow meaning we could go. I tapped my horn, she looked in her rear-view mirror at me then at the light but then just sat there thinking we didn't have an arrow and waiting for the oncoming traffic to go. I and one or two others went around the silly girl before she figured it out and joined us. I made sure I stayed well ahead of her on the road.
