Pedestrian Killed by Metra Train Was New Lenox Man, 25

A pedestrian killed Monday after being struck by a Metra train has been identified as a 25-year-old New Lenox man.

Lester P. Farrelly, Jr., died of multiple injuries as a result of being struck by a train, according to a preliminary autopsy by the Will County Coroner's office.

Farrelly was hit by Rock Island Train 402, roughly a half-mile east of Schoolhouse Road shortly before 6 a.m. Monday. He was pronounced dead at 7:13 a.m.

A final cause of death will be determined pending the results of autopsy, toxicology and police reports, according to the Coroner's office.

Metra police are investigating.

The identity of the pedestrian struck and killed early Monday on Metra's Rock Island Line between the New Lenox and Mokena stations has not yet been released. Metra officials say they don't expect to release any information until Tuesday.

The New Lenox Fire Protection District was called to the scene; however, they are not releasing information about the accident that caused lengthy delays for commuters on the Rock Island Line headed for the LaSalle Street Station.
