In voting for Southland Patch's MVP for Oct. 29-Nov. 4, who gets the biggest roar from the crowd?
Homewood-Flossmoor's Matt Anyiwo returned home from the Class 3A boys state cross country feeling with satisfaction that comes from notching a top-100 finish. Anyiwo placed 94th with a time of 15:22 for 3.0 miles.
In Lincoln-Way West's 31-15 victory over Kaneland, Lavonte Blackful carried four times for 112 yards and scored on runs of 26 and 82 yards. He returned the opening kickoff 57 yards. And he totaled 65 yards on three punt returns.

Tinley Park's Corey Doss played a game of scoop-and-score in the Titans' 42-21 loss to Joliet Catholic Academy in the second round of the Class 5A football playoffs. Doss scooped up a fumble and darted 64 yards for a fourth-quarter touchdown.
Jon Karstrand caught a 29-yard touchdown pass from Brandon White with 51.5 seconds left to lift Evergreen Park to a 34-27 victory over Richmond-Burton in the second round of the Class 4A football playoffs. The Rockets ousted the Mustangs from postseason play a year earlier.

When a team scores a school-record 69 points (62 from the offense) in the playoffs no less, there’s a lot of reasons. #1 reason last week was the offensive line of Jack Cramer, Mike Schoenfeld, Mark Castrejon, Jerry Conte and Ricky Vargas and TE Ryan Walton and Offensive Line Coach Jim McDonough. So a vote for TZ is a vote for the entire record-breaking “spread the wealth” offense. 602 yards of offense.
FYI - Just to correct the stats under the caption, Tom was 4-8 passing for 139 yards and 3 TD’s. One TD each to Ryan Walton (24yds), Tyler Usterbowski (44yds) and Kyle Hullinger (8yds). Tom also ran 58 yards on the first play from scrimmage, only to have it called back on an illegal motion penalty. None of his TD’s was rushing.

Thanks for sharing the thoughts and video highlights, John. I couldn't agree more that the entire offense deserves credit for putting up 69 points and the guys on the 'O' line are often the most under-appreciated. Right on.

O'Grady is arguably the best linebacker in IL and is definitely the leader of EAST'S linebackers, best team of linebackers in IL!
