UPDATE: Woman Injured: Struck by Metra Rock Island Train

Metra Train authorities correct a statement: A New Lenox woman was not involved in an accident Nov. 19 at the 115th Street and Vincennes Avenue. The woman involved in the accident hales from Blue Island.

Late this afternoon, Metra Train authorities corrected a statement pertaining to a car being struck by a train on Nov. 19 at 115th Street and Vincennes Avenue.

The driver of the vehicle that went around the downed-crossing gates was not a woman from New Lenox as previoulsy noted. Upon investigation, the girl was identified as 18-year-old Tori Berrios, 18, of Blue Island.

Meg Reile, a Metra media spokesperson, said Berrios told police she "was on her way home. She was in a hurry."

Berrios was ticketed for reckless driving, failure to stop for a train, driving on the wrong side  of the crossing, and operating an uninsured vehicle.

According to Reile, the accident occurred about 5:30 p.m. at the train crossing at the 115th Street and Vincennes Avenue. The woman was taken to Metro South Medical Center in Blue Island.

Witnesses told Metra police that "the driver went around other vehicles and then went around a lowered crossing gate before being struck by the train," according to Reile.

Scheduled to arrive in New Lenox at 6:01 p.m., Metra Train No. 413 struck the vehicle at the crossing. The woman was transported to the hospital by the Chicago Fire Department, said Reile.

Due to the accident, a total of 12 Metra trains were delayed anywhere from nine-to-95 minutes, added Tom Miller, of the Metra Media Relations Office. Passengers on No. 413 were transferred to other trains.

The accident is still under investigation, said Reile.
