New Lenox Man Writes Steve Bartman Book

The attorney and his longtime friend look deep into Game 6 of the 2003 NLCS between the Chicago Cubs and Florida Marlins, concluding that Bartman should be absolved.

In one New Lenox man's legal opinion, Steve Bartman shouldn't be blamed for his play on a fly ball nearly eight years ago.

According to Sun-Times Media, resident Walter Yurkanin recently published the book Mad Ball with a longtime friend, offering a deep analysis of the play that changed Cubs history.

Yurkian is a alumnus and still lives in New Lenox. He's a Chicago attorney, as is his friend and co-author Thomas Hoffman. In an interview with the Sun-Times Media, he said the umpires should have called fan interference.

"Part of (the problem) is people’s minds are made up and they aren’t willing to look at it another way," he said in the interview. "I think our book will push them to do that. We literally walk them through the facts and help them arrive at a conclusion."

According to Amazon.com, where the book is on sale for $14.95, "every aspect of the infamous 'Bartman Play' is held under the microscope - interpreting and analyzing the rules, evaluating comments from players and managers, reviewing media reports and looking at countless photos and video replays. No stone is left unturned, including the legendary Cubs curse."
