New Lenox Man Shot at Over Chicago Bears Gear

Will County police are looking for a man who fired three shots at a township resident Saturday night during an attempted robbery outside the victim's home.

A New Lenox Township man avoided three gun shots during an attempted robbery outside his home Saturday night. Police are still searching for the man who fired the shots.

The 44-year-old man returned to his home in the 14300 block of West Summerfield Drive, just north of Route 6 and Cedar Road, at about 8 p.m. Saturday.

He told police he saw a blue Chevy vehicle, either an Impala or a Monte Carlo, turn around and park outside his home. The victim left his car and walked toward his front door when a man with a gun got out of the passenger's seat of the Chevy and pointed a gun.

The gunman told the man to drop the bag he carried, which contained three Chicago Bears seat covers. The victim tossed the bag aside and took cover behind his van while he called 911.

Three shots were fired but all of them missed the resident, who was not injured. The man fled the scene in the car and turned south on Cedar Road. Will County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer said the suspect is described as a 6-foot-3-inch black male in his 40s, weighing about 200 pounds, with a black beard.

When deputies arrived they located the bag of seat covers where the suspect's vehicle was parked and saw several footprints in the snow. There was also a bullet hole in the victim's van.
