Meet New Lenox's Newest Police Officer
James Hanson took the oath of office Monday night to officially join the New Lenox Police Department.
New Lenox welcomed its newest police officer to the village Monday night.
James Hanson took the oath of office to officially join the New Lenox Police Department.
He's a Marine who served from 2003 to 2008 and spent some time in Afghanistan. Hanson also has a bachelor's degree from Northern Illinois University and was a part-time officer with the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, Chief Bob Sterba said.
I'm proud to say few have come more highly recommended than James," Sterba said, mentioning his work as a Marine. "It brings a sense of maturity and gravitas to the job that many young adults don't have."
Hanson gave a brief speech and thanked everyone at the meeting, where he was joined by his wife.
"We're very happy to be a part of this community now," he said.
Mayor Tim Baldermann said Hanson is replacing another officer who left the department. The department has 38 officers.
