The Lincoln-Way West Warrior Homecoming 2012 events kicked off with the Homecoming Olympics on Monday, October 1, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with an enthusiastic crowd of over 800 students, teachers and staff members participating in 81 teams.
"All the students had so much fun, you could hear it in their laughter and see it in their faces. We are so pleased with the number of students participating this year in the Homecoming Olympics," stated Monica Schmitt, principal.
The 81 teams of 8 students each and a teacher/staff sponsor participated in six different events for the Homecoming Olympics: Tennis Ball Relay, Wacky Waiter Relay, Sock Wars, Nose Goes, Frozen T- shirt Challenge, and the Tug of War, noted Heather Novak, Coordinator of Student Activities.
On Saturday, September 24 students were in the building to launch its first activity, 'Halldecks.' Halldecks decorate the different halls of Lincoln-Way West for the week of Homecoming, led by the four class officers. Each class was responsible for one of the hallways. Over 100 students were in the building on Saturday helping to decorate around the theme of Homecoming, Around the World," stated Novak.
Students are also bringing non-perishable food items all week to be donated to the New Lenox Township Food Pantry. Students also participated in spirit days throughout the week.
Friday the Lincoln-Way West Warriors will host Stagg High School in football. The Homecoming Dance will be held in the West gymnasium on Saturday.
"This is a fun week for our students. We are so pleased that a large majority of our students are participating in at least one event. Lincoln-Way West students have a lot of pride in their school and our Orange spirit was very strong this week," stated Schmitt.
