Help Us Pick the Golf Course with the Best Grounds Crew

Looking out over pristine greens on a hazy summer morning, golfers have these folks to thank—the ones who do the backbreaking work to keep golf courses in beautiful, tip-top shape.

Some golfers might tee off as early as possible in the mornings, but they're still not the first to arrive at the course.

Hours before the first golfer even sets foot on the dewy greens, a dedicated grounds crew is hard at work, sculpting scruffy fairways into works of art. The team mows greens, tees, and fairways, changes the holes on the greens, moves tee markers and empties trash cans. They wake early to do their part to give golfers the best round possible. They're the ones who keep those greens impeccable. They rake bunkers, water playing areas, maintain flowers, shrubs and decorated spots and keep wooded areas cleared to facilitate play.

And we bet you know the best around.

Which course comes with the best grounds crew?

  1. First, cast a vote for your favorite in our poll. Voting ends Friday, June 8.
  2. Then, click on the name of the business below and leave a review.

Reviews count for half of the overall score in determining a winner. The reviews and poll votes will be tallied and factor into the naming of "The Course with the Best Grounds Crew in the South Suburbs."

You should not mix public & private courses in your poll/survey.Keep them as separate polls. Quite naturally private courses will generally be better maintained than public courses.Instead Kudos should go to public courses like Coyote Run who keep rates low and are beautifully maintained.

Hi, Homer.

Since these polls are entirely won by fan participation (reviews, votes and comments), any course can win. If you love Coyote Run, tell everyone you know to vote for them and comment all about how fantastic they are! You can help spread the word of a stellar public course!

I tend to agree with you - public v. private but, Coyote Run Grounds Crew & Dave Ward are as good as they get and the course shows it.

I disagree - I've been on some pretty poorly maintained private courses. I've not been on Coyote Run* , but if it needs an asterisk, I suggest you try out a better public course, such as Silver Lake, which does not need to make any excuses as it is the best maintained set of courses in the area.

I'm not even a golfer, but Olympia Fields is gorgeous. Why on earth isn't it in the poll?

Lincoln Oaks in Crete is in better condition than any of these. Bent grass fairways and except for the bunkers, which they are working on, its the best deal on the south side.

Big Run Golf Club in Lockport isn't on your list, but it needs to be! The course is amazingly beautiful!

i am cannot believe that Glenwoodie in Glenwood is not on the poll. It has the best crew around headed by Eric. According to my husband they have the best greens.
