Downrange Gun Shop Moving to Channahon

The store was burglarized twice in December 2011. The owner said the move is to a larger space, allowing for more inventory.

gun shop is ditching New Lenox to open a larger store in Channahon.

Owner Robert Wise announced the move on the store's Facebook page.

"We have expanded to a bigger store which means more inventory," he said on the page. "Thanks to all our customers who have supported us in New Lenox."

The post adds that the store will be mailing postcards to customers with its new address and details on the store's grand opening.

The local shop was burglarized twice in December,  after unidentified people entered through a window and smashed a glass case holding the guns. Police were still investigating those burglaries but have recovered some of the guns.

Following the burglaries, the New Lenox Village Board approved an ordinance in March that , such as putting all firearms in a safe overnight and installing silent alarms that would directly notify police.

The store, located at 227 W. Route 30, joins a number of empty storefronts in the historic downtown area of New Lenox. The village recently approved a contract to conduct a study ways to revitalize and improve the Route 30 corridor. .
