Accident Injures Providence Catholic Students

Two Providence Catholic students were involved in a car accident Tuesday night on Route 53 in Joliet. The condition of the women could not be verified Wednesday.

Two students were critically injured in a collision with a semi truck Tuesday night. 

According to the Joliet Fire Department, the accident occurred at about 5:15 p.m. at Route 53 and Schweitzer Road in Joliet when the two students pulled onto Route 53 in a pickup truck and hit the semi. 

"We provided advanced life support to the two females in the pickup truck," said Ray Randich, deputy chief at Joliet Fire.

Parents and school officials confirmed Wednesday that the women attended Providence Catholic. More information about the students couldn't be gathered Wednesday afternoon. 

The women were both transported to the Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center. Randich did not know the extent of the womens' injuries.

Joliet Police did not immediately return phone calls Wednesday. According to the Sun-Times Media, witnesses and an investigation said it appeared as though the truck driver was not at fault
