Burglars Make Off with $8K Worth of Jewelry: Police Blotter

An 18-year-old Manhatta man gets busted for allegedly stealing vodka.

Home burglar walks off with $8,000 worth of jewelry

New Lenox police are investigating a home burglary in the 2800 block of Schooner Drive. According to the report, the home owner said burglars stole two rings valued at about $8,000.

Vodka in hand

Alexander Hartung, 18, Manhattan, was arrested and charged with retail theft and underage possession of alcohol. Staff at Walmart, 500 block of E. Route 30, complained that Hartung had left the store without paying for a bottle of vodka. He posted bond and was released.

Miscellaneous merchandise stolen

Police say staff at Walmart, 500 block of E. Route 30, earlier complained that someone stole about $500 worth of merchandise. The matter is under investigation.

Driving on a suspended license

Larry Sims, 56, Joliet, was stopped in his car at Route 6 and Silver Cross Blvd. According to the report, police stopped him because in a previous contact it was determined that Sims' license had been suspended. The driver was ticketed for driving on a suspended license.

No registration plate light attracts police attention

Kevin Downing, 32, Plainfield, was arrested for an outstanding Will County warrant for failure to appear after a traffic stop at Cedar Road and First Avenue.

A burned out registration plate light was enough to call attention to Downing.  He was pulled over, and police found that he did not have a valid driver's license. He was taken to Will County jail.
